  • Warm up: Parts of Speech
  • Review/finish yesterday's lesson:
    • 7th period: Pass back & discuss results of Exit Slip from yesterday.Correct yesterday's HW: identifying complete subject & complete predicate in a sentence, and reviewing verbs and noun practice.
      • Review forms of verbs: those that show action ("walked"), those that describe actions that cannot be seen ("heard"), and State of being verbs ("is").
    • 6th period: Finish lesson on complete subject & complete predicate--practice on SMARTBoard and on notes handout.
  • Both classes: Receive Lesson 2 Handout. On SMARTBoard, define, identify and understand the purpose of *simple subjects and *simple predicates. Practice together with guided video tutorial.
    • Discuss/practice with class.
    • Review helping verbs.
  • Introduce simple diagramming of subject + predicate. Notice example on orange bulletin board
  • HW:
    • 6th Period: Finish Exit Slip & diagram 2nd example of simple predicate & simple subject on handout.
    • 7th Period: complete "Fragment" practice handout.

Wednesday, 3/20/13
  • Stamp WW pages 144-147
  • Discuss/correct last night's homework (exit slip for 6th period)
    • 6th period will receive "Fragment" handout in class and will complete it together.
  • Review yesterday's lesson: Diagram simple subjects & simple predicates on SMARTBoard.
  • Distribute Lesson 3 Handout: Compound Subjects & Compound Predicates.
    • Study 3 sample diagrams:
      • compound subject: simple predicate;
      • compound subject & compound predicate;
      • simple subject & compound predicate
    • Practice a few examples on SMARTBoard
  • Begin/complete HW in class

Thursday, 3/21/13
  • Stamp and correct WW pages using student leader
  • Review
    • Discuss/correct HW
    • Practice diagramming compound predicates & subjects with class on SMARTBoard
  • Review/define direct object and indirect object using Lesson 4 Handout
    • practice identifying DO and IOs in sentences.
    • Introduce sentence diagramming of them.
      • Practice
  • Begin HW in class.

Friday, 3/22/13
Homework & Announcement:
Due to the shortened week coming up (Team/Spirit Day on Thursday and Spring Break begins on Friday), we will postpone beginning Word Wisdom Unit 6 Part 3. However, I originally announced to students that they would have that opportunity to earn 10 additional assessment points and 10 additional homework points for quarter 3 by completing U6P3. In exchange, I will offer 5 bonus points to students who complete U6P3 pages 150-155 (early) by Wednesday, March 27th.
